We have "Learning Targets" or short -term goals. We talk about them and they are posted in the back of our room. These are Texas Standards that are written in kid-friendly language. Following are some learning targets that we have been working on:
First Quarter Learning Targets: Math Learning Targets: Topic 3: I can count hundreds, tens and ones. I can read and write numbers to 999. I can count thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. I can read and write numbers to 1,200. I can make numbers in different ways. I can problem solve using reasoning. Topic 4: I can name a whole number on a number line. I can show the position of a whole number on an open number line. I can put whole numbers up to 1,200 in order. I can tell and compare whole numbers up to 1,200 using symbols (<, >, =) I can use place value to put numbers to 1,200 in order . I can use place value to tell and compare numbers to 1,200 using symbols (<,>,=) I can make a number that is greater than or less than another whole number to 1,200. I can sort numbers and find patterns to solve problems. Topic 1: I can add facts to 20 using doubles and near doubles. I can add facts to twenty by adding in any order. I can add facts to. 20 adding three numbers. I can add facts to twenty by making ten. I can problem solve and explain my solution using words pictures numbers or symbols. Topic 11: I can name even and odd numbers. I can make numbers that are 10 more 10 less, 100 more and 100 less. I can find patterns in a set of numbers. I can find the missing number in 2 and 3 digit addition/subtraction problems. I can make a table and look for a pattern. Language Arts Learning Targets: I can describe main characters in works of fiction including their traits. I can identify the setting of a text. I can identify main idea and supporting details of text. I can identify and understand cause and effect. I can decode multi-syllabic words. I can use complete sentences with subjects and predicates. I can use identify and create interrogative, declarative, and exclamatory sentences. I know and can identify nouns. Science Learning Targets: I can explain and use the scientific process. I can identify the 3 states of matter and give examples of each. I can demonstrate how to change an objects physical properties (i.e cutting or melting) I can explore the changes in materials caused by increasing or decreasing light, heat and sound energy I can explore numerous ways to balance two and three-dimensional objects by using counterweights I can locate the the stable position of an object when balanced. I can compare patterns of different movement Social Studies Learning Targets: I can recite the pledge and understand its meaning. I can identify the USA on a map or globe. I understand the importance of classroom and school rules and the role I play. I can explain the significance of various community, state, and national celebrations such as Columbus Day. I can describe the order of events by using designations of time periods such as historical and present times. I can explain how people and events have influenced my local community history (ex. Christopher Columbus).
